KCAC Aviation Delivers its First Pilatus PC-12 NGX

OLATHE, KS. (June 16, 2020) – KCAC Aviation has delivered its first PC-12 NGX, the new single-engine turboprop from Swiss manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. The PC-12 NGX was delivered to a customer in Oklahoma, marking another milestone in KCAC’s 54-year history in the aviation business.

The NGX has been highly sought after since being introduced last fall at the 2019 National Business Aviation Association-Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in Las Vegas. “We’re excited to be part of the next chapter of the PC-12 story,” said Mark Riley, KCAC Aviation’s General Manager. “You don’t get to introduce a brand-new aircraft very often, so we’re especially proud to be one of the first U.S. deliveries among the Pilatus Authorized Sales Center Network. Pilatus has definitely taken the NGX’s predecessor, the PC-12 NG, to a whole new level with the NGX.”

Already considered one of the best single-engine turboprops in its class, the NGX commands attention thanks to upgrades throughout, including a more powerful PT6E-67XP engine from Pratt & Whitney Canada, smarter avionics and a complete redesign of the cabin interior. The NGX also boasts a breakthrough for turboprops with the first full authority digital engine control, which eases pilot workload and provides greater control and responsiveness.

The eye-catching interior is brought to life by the expert artisans at BMW Designworks. Inspired by the modern design of the PC-24 Super Versatile Jet, the new executive seats on the PC-12 NGX feature full recline capabilities, taller seat backs and adjustable lumbar support. Passengers will especially appreciate the expanded headroom, leg space and upgraded cooling system. The cabin also has 10 percent larger windows allowing more light to stream inside and greater visibility.

“The NGX has something to offer for everyone, including several industry firsts that keep it a step ahead of the competition,” said Michael Kolman, KCAC’s Regional Director of Pilatus Sales for Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma “The new electronic engine controls are a pilot’s dream, and passengers will enjoy the more modern and spacious cabin. For versatility, safety and comfort, nothing in its class can match the NGX.”

With more than eight million flight hours and 1,750 aircraft in operation since it was first introduced a quarter century ago, the PC-12 is the preferred choice of pilots worldwide. The NGX is the third generation of aircraft designed on the reliable PC-12 airframe.

KCAC’s exclusive Pilatus sales and service territory includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

VERO BEACH, Fla., May 18, 2020 – Piper Aircraft announced today that the company’s newest flagship, the Piper M600/SLS, has received type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its new HALO safety system -making it the first Garmin Autoland equipped aircraft in the world to receive certification. Deliveries begin immediately. Piper Aircraft, Inc. made the announcement today at the company’s headquarters in Vero Beach, Florida.

“We are delighted to announce the certification of the M600/SLS with the HALO Safety System by the FAA”, said Simon Caldecott, Piper Aircraft President and CEO. “This is the first aircraft to be certified with one of the most significant advancements in general aviation history. As a company that has always held safety at the forefront of our culture, we are proud to be first to market with Autoland. Additionally, it is our great honor to pave the way for others to follow with this new technology.”

“The FAA certification of Autoland is a day of celebration for the entire aviation industry as we redefine the expectations of not only the pilot, but more importantly the passenger, and what should be standard equipment on general aviation aircraft,” said Phil Straub, Garmin executive vice president and managing director of aviation. “Our congratulations to Piper for certifying this safety enhancing technology on the M600 and delivering one of the industry’s most significant innovations to our respective customers.”

The HALO Safety System with Garmin Autoland is standard equipment on all M600/SLS aircraft. Piper’s Brand-New M600 SLS Can Land Itself

October 30, 2019

VERO BEACH, FL., October 30, 2019 –Piper Aircraft announced today, the next generation M Series aircraft – the M600 SLS, standard equipped with the new HALO™ Safety System – enhancing Safety, Luxury, and Support for one of the world’s leading personal use, Basic Med compliant aircraft. It is now on track to be the first general aviation aircraft in the world to be certified with Autoland capability.

SAFETY

The HALO™ Safety System is a compilation of innovative technologies unique to the M600 SLS and the Garmin G3000 avionics suite. The system includes Auto-throttle, Emergency Descent Mode, Enhanced Stability and Protection, Surface Watch, Safe Taxi, Flight Stream connectivity and more. However, of greatest significance is the addition of Garmin Autoland – digital technology that safely lands the aircraft at the nearest suitable airport in the event that the pilot is incapacitated.

The Halo system, once engaged either automatically or by a passenger, gains immediate situational awareness and assumes control of all systems necessary to bring you and your passengers safely to the best suited runway. During all phases of flight it communicates with passengers and appropriate air traffic control facilities regarding the new flight plan route and estimated time until landing.

Halo continually monitors all aircraft system parameters and real-time external inputs as if the pilot were at the controls. It takes into account runway size and orientation, wind, time, fuel range, glide path and considers weather conditions and terrain en route to the nearest suitable runway. Once Halo has landed the aircraft, the braking system will activate and will bring the aircraft to a full and complete stop. Finally, the engine will shut down and instructions will be provided on how to exit the aircraft.

LUXURY

The M600 SLS raises the bar in Luxury with the addition of the EXP interior package as standard equipment. The interior package was designed with a focus on the personal travel experience and enables the customer to select from sophisticated interior color palettes with custom materials, stitching patterns and contrasting threads. Veneer and trim finishes further enhance the sense of unmatched refinement. Additionally, thoughtfully designed interior options, like two toned leather seats and Alcantara fabric have been added to elevate the passenger experience.

SUPPORT

Ownership of a M600 SLS is backed by an exclusive service program for the first five years of ownership. The Ultimate Care Program includes all scheduled maintenance, as well as hourly and calendar-based inspections.

The team at Piper Aircraft is proud that we continue on track to be first to market with Garmin Autoland, which will ultimately help pave the way for others.”

Pilatus Unveils Brand-New PC-12 NGX

Media Release 22.10.2019
The World’s Best Turboprop – Better Than Ever: Pilatus Reveals the PC-12 NGX

Today, at the National Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Las Vegas, Pilatus took the wraps off the industry’s most advanced and versatile single-engine turboprop – the PC-12 NGX.

The brand-new PC-12 NGX incorporates an improved engine, smarter avionics and a completely redesigned cabin with larger windows, making this third generation of the PC-12 airframe the most advanced single-engine turboprop ever. Building on the experience gathered from the worldwide PC-12 fleet of over 1,700 aircraft with more than seven million flight hours plus Pilatus industry-leading support, the new PC-12 NGX brings the latest technology to the turboprop market.

Proven engine technology with digital control

Single-engine turboprop operation demands a proven powerplant: at the heart of the new PC-12 NGX is the PT6E-67XP turboprop engine by Pratt & Whitney Canada. This improved engine features an Electronic Propeller and Engine Control System including Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) – a worldwide first in this market segment. In addition, the new propeller low speed mode results in a significant reduction in cabin noise for great passenger comfort. The new turboprop engine enables the PC-12 NGX to achieve a maximum cruise speed of 290 KTAS (537 kilometres per hour). The PC-12 NGX also adds advanced features like Prist®-free fuel operation.

Smart cockpit environment

The PC-12 NGX boasts a range of new features for the pilot: the Advanced Cockpit Environment (ACE™) System by Honeywell as inspired by the PC-24 provides enhanced avionics. In another first for the segment, Pilatus combines the power of a cursor control device with the versatility of a smart touch screen controller in a truly professional flight deck. The digital autothrottle, i.e. automatic thrust adjustment, reduces pilot workload for greater safety and ensures automatic power optimisation in every phase of flight.

New cabin with larger windows

The cabin windows have been enlarged by ten percent to enhance the PC-12 NGX’s passenger experience and deliver more natural light. The rectangular shape of the new windows, also adapted from the PC-24, and dark windshield surround trim create a distinctive ramp presence for the PC-12 NGX.

The completely redesigned cabin comes in six different BMW Designworks’ interiors. The especially developed extremely light passenger seats offer optimum ergonomics with full-recline capability if required. The seats are arranged to provide maximum freedom of movement with more headroom thanks to the redesigned headliner. The air-conditioning system delivers better and quieter air distribution.

Reduced operating cost

With the new PC-12 NGX, scheduled maintenance intervals have been extended to 600 flight hours, which provides significant cost savings. The time-between-overhaul period has also been increased from 4,000 to 5,000 hours, thereby reducing the cost of operating the PC-12 NGX even further, making it the undisputed leader in its class.

Speaking at the presentation in Las Vegas, Markus Bucher, CEO of Pilatus, stated: “We are excited to reveal the new PC-12 NGX today. To maintain the PC-12’s leadership in the general aviation marketplace, we continuously seek innovative solutions which benefit the safety, comfort and productivity of our customers. The PC-12 NGX is a showcase for the advanced technology collaboration between Pilatus, Pratt & Whitney Canada, and Honeywell. Together, we took the best, and made it even better. What’s more, our customers do not have to wait years into the future to enjoy these benefits, the PC-12 NGX is here today.”

Base price of the PC-12 NGX in 2020 is 4,390,000 US dollars, with typically equipped executive-configured aircraft priced at 5,369,000 US dollars.

The PC-12 NGX at the NBAA-BACE

Pilatus presents the first series production PC-12 NGX at the static display at NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas from 22 to 24 October. The PC-12 NGX is certified, and customer deliveries will begin in the second quarter of 2020.

KCAC Aviation Delivers First Pilatus PC-24 in Midwest

September 26, 2018 (Olathe, KS) – KCAC Aviation, an Authorized Pilatus Sales and Service Center, delivered the first Pilatus PC-24 Super Versatile Jet to a customer in the Midwest. In a ceremony at their facility in Olathe, Kansas, KCAC Aviation delivered PC-24 serial number 110 to a customer based in Illinois. It is the tenth production delivery of the newly certified Super Versatile Jet worldwide.

Mark Riley, General Manager for KCAC Aviation commented: “We are excited to deliver the first Pilatus PC-24 to a customer in the Midwest. Our customer purchased the airplane primarily for its unimproved runway performance for operations on dirt or grass runways, an operation most jet aircraft cannot do. There is really nothing else like the PC-24 in the market today.”

Superior customer service has been a key part of the Pilatus service network’s achievement of 17 consecutive years of number-one ranked customer support, as rated by independent industry surveys. KCAC Aviation’s level of customer service has been an important element in achieving that ranking.

Riley continued: “Everyone’s reaction to the airplane is just how large the cabin is for a mid-size aircraft. A real game changer has arrived and demand for the airplane has been simply amazing. With the legendary performance and reliability of a Pilatus, this will be the first of many PC-24s delivered in our territory.”

KCAC Aviation pilot and maintenance personnel have been through type-specific training, and all special support tooling and spare parts for the PC-24 are already in inventory.

G1000 NXi for the next generation of Piper M350 and M500 aircraft

2018 models of Piper M350 and M500 feature Garmin’s new and improved G1000 NXi which incorporates innovative capabilities into a proven avionics platform with significant performance enhancements.

By incorporating modern processing power, the most noticeable improvement is faster map rendering, smoother panning and clearer, brighter displays. Valuable time is saved as the displays initialize within seconds after start-up, providing immediate access to frequencies, flight plan data and more.

Utilizing wireless cockpit technology unlocks even more capabilities. Flight Stream 510, available as an option, enables the wireless transfer of aviation databases from the Garmin Pilot app on a mobile device to the G1000 NXi system. It also supports two-way flight plan transfer, the sharing of traffic, weather, GPS information, back-up attitude information and more, between the G1000 NXi and compatible mobile devices running Garmin Pilot or ForeFlight mobile.

New map overlays within the HSI on the primary flight display enables the display of a variety of graphical elements while viewing other information on the multi-function display. NEXRAD, FIS-B weather, weather radar, SafeTaxi airport diagrams, traffic, terrain and more can be selected. For example, pilots can display NEXRAD radar and traffic on the HSI map while preparing flight plan information on the multi-function display.

Visual approaches have been integrated offering safety-enhancing guidance during visual flight conditions based on a three-degree glideslope from the threshold of the runway. Pilots can select the runway for which they have been cleared to land, set customized minimums, select vectors or straight-in for the final approach intercept and fly a visual approach coupled with the autopilot. This gives pilots a more stable and precise flight path throughout the approach and landing phases of flight in visual conditions.

One option to consider is SurfaceWatch runway monitoring. This technology aids in situation awareness while providing visual and aural cues to help prevent taking off and landing on a taxiway, on a runway that is too short or on the wrong runway based on performance data entered during preflight. Visual and audible runway distance remaining annunciations, which provides aural callouts beginning at 5,000 feet through 500 feet, are also available.

Equipped to meet future airspace modernization initiatives, the G1000 NXi system is rule-compliant with FAA ADS-B requirements. It also supports the display of various ADS-B In benefits, including traffic and subscription-free weather. Flight Information Service-Broadcast weather products include: NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs, PIREPs, winds and temperatures aloft, NOTAMs, AIRMETs and SIGMETs. Additional products provide pilots with target trajectories and closure rates, and/or a comprehensive picture of ADS-B-equipped aircraft and ground vehicles throughout the airport environment. These ADS-B In benefits combine to give pilots superior situational awareness tools throughout the terminal and enroute environments.

Additional G1000 NXi features:

  • Advanced Doppler weather radar capabilities, including ground clutter suppression and turbulence detection as options.
  • COMM frequency identification displays the station ID, as well as frequency type.
  • Display of sectional charts, as well as IFR low/high enroute charts on the MFD.
  • NEXRAD weather radar imagery can be overlaid on the moving map and animated on the MFD, as well as the HSI map.
  • Vertical Situation Display (VSD) incorporates terrain profile view on the MFD, taking into consideration the active flight plan, altitude constraints and winds aloft.
  • Pilots can preview departure and arrival procedures on the MFD prior to loading and activating the procedures.
  • Three-color terrain shading incorporates green, yellow and red contouring, which depicts the aircraft is 2,000, 1,000 and 100 feet above ground level (AGL) respectively.

Jet Charter Fleet Provides Travel Options Tailored to Your Needs

As the largest charter operator in the Kansas City metropolitan region, there is a reason why the bulk of KCAC Aviation’s charter trips are completed by repeat customers who have grown accustomed to the personalized and professional service provided by KCAC’s flight crews and dispatch teams. Great service and flexible options means customers can be confident in matching the right aircraft for their travel needs.

A few guidelines

Determining which aircraft best fits the needs for your trip can be broken down into 3 categories – cabin size, speed and range. The more people you plan to take obviously drives the number of seats required. But you also have choices in cabin width and ceiling height as well. Also consider how far you need to go and how fast you need to get there. On shorter flights, faster isn’t necessarily the most economical option.

The charter coordinators at KCAC work with you to determine the best aircraft for your mission, passenger load, distance and destination. KCAC’s fleet of aircraft are all-weather equipped and can provide wi-fi access on the go. Typical charter aircraft offered by KCAC are included below, with aircraft options available, such as long-range business jets, to best suit one’s travel needs.

Pilatus PC-12

  • Seats: 6-9 Passengers
  • Speed: 285 KTAS (327 MPH)
  • Range: 1,845 nm

Charter customers also find peace of mind in understanding the charter fleet is meticulously maintained by KCAC’s own factory-trained technicians. Not only to comply with the guidelines of KCAC’s Part 135 Charter Certificate and maintain KCAC’s ARGUS Gold rating, but to adhere to the high standards that KCAC strives in delivering the best service possible.
